Hower House is an 1871 Victorian Mansion built by industrialist John Henry Hower. Hower and Akron architect Jacob Snyder designed the House in the Second Empire Italianate style yet its unusual floor plan was developed by Snyder and is based upon the "Akron Plan" used for Sunday Schools.
The home was occupied for over 100 years by three generations of the Hower family and given to The University of Akron in 1970. It remains one of the finest and best preserved examples of its style in the country.  Visitors are welcome to view the unique architecture and rare treasures of this National Historic Landmark eleven months of the year. Closed on major holidays and the month of January.
